Teaching in Vinh, a town in the middle of Vietnam
The beautiful mountain ranges seen on a clear day.
The city is not too busy but enough to have a good vibe. The quality of life here is also good and life is generally comfortable here.
Where is good to eat and drink? (Top 3 places)
My three favourite places to eat and drink have to be… ‘Moon Quan’ – great tapas and tea. Gogi House – Good Korean BBQ food. Random local spots – The city is packed with good local street food. Trying to find the gems can turn into a culinary adventure.
There are many cafe's in Vinh, so many that I am not even sure where to start. A good spot for coffee is near Ho Chi Minh Square. The nightlife is good depending on where you go. Many foreigners tend to meet at the ‘Local Pub’ ‘Esperer’ or ‘We Pub’. Many bars are opening all the time and new beers are being offered bottled or on tap.
Fishing in the nearby river which offers some picturesque views. Drives out of the city are very scenic and driving to the mountains are always a treat.
Are there any places that is a must see, any major tourist attractions?
Mount Quyet is a mountain in the city with a beautiful pagoda on the top. A definite must see.
The city has a very basic layout and finding your way around gets easy quickly. There are a few main roads which all link up and each part of the city has a unique vibe.
The driving is easy and there is no hectic traffic that may make you late. As a foreigner here the police leave you be and don’t bother anyone too much
The centre is a happy environment where we all try stay as positive as we can. The teachers all socialize and often go out for a drink or two after work.
The Vietnamese here are still not used to foreigners yet. You will get laughed at and pointed at for no reason every now and then but you develop a hard skin. Many photos will be taken of you as well, you either see it as an irritation or you can take advantage the opportunity and feel like someone famous! The younger Vietnamese here are usually accustomed to Western culture and are really interested in you as a foreigner. Vinh offers some great extra mural activities such as boxing at eco-city with Johnathon Veluz as well as the ukulele club – run by some of the local university students.
It is very relaxing and has a lot of benefits by being away from the big cities.
