Teaching in Bai Chay, a beautiful beach town in the north of Vietnam
The beach and surrounding islands
How busy is the city and how the quality of life?
The city has a busy tourism season from May to July but during the other months it is relatively quiet. Quality of life is good as there is a warm community of teachers and a lot of activities such as island trips and beach days during the summer.
Wander StationSandy BayGreen Restaurant
Backpackers Bar and Sun Club are where the teachers socialize. Otherwise there are many beach bars/restaurants to be enjoyed.
Sandy Bay beach and restaurant is where the teachers often spend their Mondays or we go to Cat Ba island which is only a 45 minute ferry ride away and accommodation is relatively cheap. There is also a Sunworld water and theme park in Ha Long City.
Are there any places that is a must see, any major tourist attractions?
Cat Ba and Quan Lan Islands
Ha Long Bay
In the center of Bai Chay (the tourist suburb of Ha Long City)What is it like driving in your town / city?
The traffic is busy as there is a lot of construction underway around the city, although it still does not compare to the Hanoi or HCMC traffic congestion.
It’s a small center with 3 teachers and a Head Teacher who all strive to create a friendly English environment for the students. We set high standards for in class teaching as well as CTP’s and report writing and pride ourselves in student retention. We are also lucky to have a friendly and dedicated Vietnamese staff.
We have company functions every couple of months where the English and Vietnamese staff socialize. I have a couple of Vietnamese friends who I have built a relationship with over the past year.
